LARGE CARNIVORE ENCLOSURES The large carnivore enclosures are constructed with 6-gauge galvanized steel panels. The panels are attached on the bottom of the cages under the substrate of decomposed granite, permitting drainage during heavy rains. The top is also completely attached with varied heights to allow the animal to climb and sun on any of the three tier platforms above the dens. Bowling balls and other items are introduced for play and enrichment. LOCK-OUTS The lock-outs are constructed of the same material, with a guillotine door that comes down once the animal is inside. This allows safe access to the enclosure for cleaning and repairs. A double-entry door system provides additional safetyone door is locked before a worker enters through the second door. If two animals share the same enclosure, a divider provides separation within the lockout, eliminating fighting when both are inside. The lockout is welded onto a transport wagon and can be detached for immediate transport for emergencies or veterinary care. Behavioral conditioning makes the lockout a welcome place. Everyday feedings occur there, so the animal is comfortable going in. |
