DANCING BRANCHES...

Our adolescent cougar, Montana, is intrigued by Dancing Branches. Although he plays with them only after the keeper steps away and the branch is still, he is trying to work up the courage to attack while the branch is in motion.

On this day in July, the keeper jiggled the Dancing Branch while Monty watched. Afterwards, she put the branch in his water tub and walked away. She had barely turned before Monty raced up to the tub.

Monty dragged the branch from the tub and whirled away with it at top speed. He "killed" the branch at his leisure, dragging, chewing, and rolling in it for 45 minutes. The next day, he was still finding pieces of it and working them over to make sure the kill was complete.
