SAFE HAVEN'S VETERINARIANS

Safe Haven has a wonderful new veterinary team—Dr. R. Brooks Bloomfield and his wife, office manager Jennifer Bloomfield, of the Animal Outpatient Care Center of Truckee-Tahoe, and Dr. Patti McCormack and vet tech Julie Kirby of Kreature Komforts Animal Hospital in Sparks, NV. They bring years of experience and expertise in wildlife and exotic animal care to our facility.

Dr. Bloomfield, an alumnus of the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, completed a residency in zoological medicine and has treated a wide variety of species, including exotics, for over two decades. He and Jennifer have shared their experience in a number of columns on pet-related topics, including disaster preparedness, recreation, and travel with pets. They are completely unfazed by the six-hour round-trip drive to Safe Haven from their location in Truckee, CA.

Dr. McCormack graduated with honors from the UC-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. At Kreature Komforts, her specialties are the surgical and medical care of small animals, exotics, and pocket pets. Her time at home is occupied by her husband John, their four children, and their dog, cats, and turtles.

Julie Kirby, the Senior Technician at Kreature Komforts, graduated with the first class of Licensed Veterinary Technicians from Truckee Meadows Community College in 2005. She has worked in various aspects of animal care in the Reno-Sparks area since 1988. Julie and her husband Joe enjoy life on their small farm with their horse, a pygmy goat, chickens, pigeons, dogs and cats.

We are fortunate to be able to work with all of these talented professionals, who have made it possible for us to settle into our Nevada sanctuary with the knowledge that our residents will continue to receive expert veterinary care.
