History

Ricky is one of three siblings produced by parents Roy and Myra via a private owner in Colorado. After falling ill, their own contacted Safe Haven in order to secure her five African servals permanent placement. We gladly accepted, and she drove the whole family out from Colorado to our sanctuary in Nevada.

Ricky is the hunter of the group and has been known to leave large piles of feathers from ravens that made the unfortunate mistake of entering his enclosure. His keepers have witnessed him practicing his hunting skills in which he gets low to the ground and slowly stalks around the brush. Ricky likes chicken wings the best, while the hunter in him tends to enjoy all things bird.

Ricky has been with us for 11 years.

About African Servals

African servals are small, lean, wild cats who are native to the Africa savannah. They have very distinctive coats with black stripes and spots. Their hunting skills are driven by a keen sense of smell and their ability to jump as high as 12 feet in order to catch birds and other prey. Although servals generally don’t live beyond 10 years in the wild, they can live into their early twenties in captivity.
